Children’s dentistry
Friendly first visits, fissure sealants and habits that stick.
We all want to give our children the best start, and that includes their teeth. A child who has good early experiences at the dentist usually grows up confident about visits and takes better care of their teeth for life.

We never rush a child
Early appointments are often just about getting used to the place. A look around, a chat, a sticker on the way out. We only suggest hopping up on the big chair when your child is happy to, and not before.
Going at their pace builds confidence and gets across the thing that matters most: that we are here to help, not to tell them off.

Come in as a family
Children learn from watching. If an older sibling gets praise and a sticker, the younger one usually follows suit, often on a first visit. So you are welcome to come in together.
Equally, if you feel your child does better seen on their own, that is absolutely fine and we will arrange it that way.

Common questions
Children’s enamel is thinner and less well mineralised than adult enamel, so it stands up less well to repeated sugar attack. We check the condition of that enamel at every examination, which means we can step in early with a preventive approach rather than waiting for sensitivity or pain.
We can start even earlier than that. If you are pregnant, we are happy to see you about anything from pregnancy gingivitis to fluoride for the baby once they arrive.
Children are natural sugar seekers, and they are advertised to relentlessly. Even some drinks marketed as healthy, fruit smoothies among them, are worse for teeth than parents expect. That makes your job harder.
We back you up. Our clinicians reinforce the healthier choices you are already making at home and help younger patients understand why brushing twice a day actually matters, so it is not just a parent nagging.
Nobody wants to see their child in pain. We repair badly decayed and accidentally damaged teeth, including cases where a tooth has broken down significantly. Our approach to deeper medication and root treatment has saved a lot of teeth over the years.
Where enamel has not formed properly, through hypoplasia, certain medicines or an early childhood illness, we can disguise and protect those areas so the tooth looks better as well as lasting longer.
